Gulzaaar
The
unbeatable lyricist was born as Sampooran Singh Kalra in 1936 in Dina
which is now a part of Pakistan. He was born in a Sikh family which
later migrated to
Delhi post partition. During his college days, Gulzar had a strong
inclination towards music and his father was against this choice.
He used to work as a car mechanic
Before
his stardom, Gulzar sahab used to work as a touch-up man for cars in a
garage. He also used to write in his spare time and his father used to
rebuke his
ways. After struggling for some time, he got his first break as a
lyricist with the film Bandini (1963). He took the pen name Gulzar
Deenvi but later shortened it to Gulzar.
