Quote of present times!

"Founders of human Civilization, who are needed three times a day and who used to worry during the growing season, now worry throughout, thinking whether the difference of their input and output will be Positive for their subsistence but are always optimistic about the same. But the end product normally is that in the prevalent system, Farming policies in Idia are eroding their profitability. Producers lament their fate; consumers are crying and middle men are enjoying."

Once on my visit to India, I happened to go to my farm in village Dharmgarh located 16 Km from Chandigarh. Women labour hailing from Bihar were plucking Green Chillies for selling in 'Sabzi mandi'(Vegetable market) of Mohali. I asked the supervisor about daily wages of those poor women. He replied, "Nothing" ,and that he had entered into a contract with them to take away the produce at the rate of Re 1 per Kg. and that he just wanted the field vacated for sowing the next crop. The rate of green chillies in the whole sale market was Rs.1 per Kg. but in retail market it was Rs.6 per Kg. The Gain of the producer was Zero and the consumer had to shell out Rs.6 /Kg. the profit of middle men was Rs.5 per Kg. for a song. My grandfather ,about marriage, used to say," Kissi da Munda, kissey di kuddi Vicholiyey nu dono passeyeon suit bina hing phtkadi laggey". (It is customary the marriage broker gets cloth for a warm suit from groom's as well as bride's side as his brokerage-Good fortune with little money)

Farmers throwing vegetables on a road during a protest as part of the Maharashtra bandh over various demands in Nagpur, Maharashtra
Crop buying prices are sometimes so low that farmers dump their produce on roads, burn red chills crop, spill milk on the street in protest against low prices. Crop failure triggers suicides.
